History

1951

In 1951, the footings were laid, and concrete began to pour on what today are the Head Offices and main hangar facility for Voyageur Aviation Corp. These facilities were constructed to serve as support facilities for the work being conducted by Canadian Forces Base North Bay.

1968

Voyageur Airways Limited, a Canadian licenced Air Operator and Approved Maintenance Organization was established in 1968 in its current headquarters of North Bay, Ontario, Canada. Voyageur Airways operated a scheduled passenger service on the route Sudbury- North Bay- Ottawa with a Beech 18 and a flight school with two Piper Cherokee 140 trainers.

1977

In 1977, Voyageur ushered in the modern era of air ambulance in Ontario, Canada by helping institute a new method of long-distance transfer for medical patients utilizing aircraft instead of land vehicles. Conducting patient transfers on behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Health, the fixed-wing air ambulance services corresponded with the beginning of the province of Ontario's air ambulance system. Today Voyageur’s Aeromedical division continues to be an important part of our domestic and international business.

1987

From 1987 to 2010, Voyageur served as the dedicated provider of critical care fixed wing air ambulance for Ontario, operating four dedicated aircraft under Ontario flight call designations "Bandage 4" and "Bandage 5".

1992

In combination with the Government of Ontario, created and operated a Multiple Patient Transfer Unit (MPTU) to move non-critical patients from the north to the southern part of the province on a scheduled basis. This de Havilland Dash 7 aircraft was equipped to accommodate up to six stretcher patients.

1996

In the late 1990’s Voyageur began searching for a new home to expand its rapidly growing MRO business, as well as house its fleet of regional turboprop aircraft. About the same time the military hangar operation in North Bay was winding down, and the hangars had been deemed surplus to their needs. By 1996 the hangars had been vacated by the military and Voyageur acquired the first hangar and moved the operation into the facility the next year.

Voyageur is the dedicated fixed wing air ambulance provider in the province of New Brunswick. Voyageur has provided this service successfully going on 25+ years, averaging 500 patient transfers per year. The service is provided with two Beechcraft King Air 200 aircraft with a custom modified air ambulance interior.
